Shahbaz Hussain and Helen Anahita Wilson – Diwan (2019)

🇬🇧  🇮🇳 Two absolutely different instruments in one harmonic action: it’s a unique duo worth a listen with your eyes closed.

When the eyes are closed, you can feel the music without an attempt to react to it. Just joining the story told by vibrations from the deep heart transferred by hands.

It’s not so often to hear tabla and piano together. Two different worlds, you might say. Nevertheless, these two talented artists have established the collaboration. Traditional joins contemporary with a help of their fingers.

The album contains both intense and melancholic compositions. From time to time tabla sounds fade away but come back eventually to say the words of eternal rhythm. The special thing to me here is probably Neeleshwar, with its organic sequence. However, right after that, you’ll get a genuine tabla solo in Carneline which will not let you be indifferent.
