Ipek Yolu – Tropical Anatolia (2021)

🇹🇷 🇩🇰 Our piggy bank of curiosities is replenished. It’s time to once again unwind the compass and mix all the coordinates. The Ipek Yolu collective (“Silk Road” in Turkish) is going to help us with this.

Anatolian rock is of a wave nature. The first wave had spread around the world in the 1960s, following the invention and the rapid flowering of psychedelic rock. Later on, till the late 1980s, further sparks continued to light up, drawing attention not only to rock, but to everything Turkish.

Finally, it’s time for a new wave. As in the past, the heritage of Anatolia was glorified beyond its borders, and only then returned to its homeland. In the case of Ipek Yolu, we are dealing with Denmark, which has become the home of the band’s founder and his followers.

The album’s compositions can easily confuse us. “Afro” and “Turco” march across Europe with no respect to any cultural boundaries. Along the way, we encounter some cumbia from South America, surf rock from North America, and other musical achievements of humankind. Exotic flares are everywhere on the album. Catch this tropical wave and take a deep dive.
