🇨🇭 Sharp guitars, mighty bass and serious but slightly shadowed drums. This is Herod’s album of 2019 year – the one that I have encountered only now.
Herod is a four-piece thing from Vevey, Switzerland. It’s Pierre Carroz (guitar and bass), Mike Pilat (guitar and voice), Bertrand Pot (guitar) and Fabien Vodoz (drums). The band represent the dark Swiss scene, being aside of any mainstream or hierarchy. However, they have been sharing a stage with giant like Gojira, Crowbar, or The Ocean.
It took a while for Herod to issue this album. Sombre Dessein turned out to be heavy as hell, half plangent and half compressed. A maze of riffs with low ceilings. Easy to get lost and forget yourself. Face the beginning of the end together with Herod.
Notice that the album was mastered by Magnus Lindberg from Cult of Luna. It certainly influenced the sound, but you’ll hear not only the style of CoL inside. You’ll have intersections of metal, sludge, all sounding progressive and eclectic.
