This regular Goosebumps Chronicles’ episode covers the months of May and June of 2023. As always, we picked 10 albums by artists who we talked about before.
1. The Machine – Wave Cannon (2023)

🇳🇱 The beginning of May is the time for everything new. This also applies to the Dutch Machine. Five years after their previous batch, the new one came to life. This group has always been distinguished by a responsible attitude to work and pedantry hidden behind the apparent slowness. “Wave Cannon” is not exception. There are no flaws or weak points on this album. All the material is smooth and deep enough to immerse yourself in without losing your head.

Previous masterpiece by The Machine, “Faceshift” (2018).
2. Tinariwen – Amatssou (2023)

🇲🇱 The Tuareg’s path through the landscapes of recognition is tortuous, long and persistent. One cannot ever say that they “returned to the roots”, as absolutely all the collective’s creativity is directed to the very origins, as to an oasis. From time to time, they pick new improvised means bringing the sound closer to the Western standards. This time the album’s style takes its intonations from country music. You will hear the voices of banjo and violin, as well as sounds of traditional African instruments and, of course, guitars.

Previous masterpiece by Tinariwen, “Emmaar” (2014).
3. Bridge Farmers – Cosmic Trigger (2023)

🇺🇸 We are heading to Texas to see the local thugs who have prepared a surprise for us. Compared to the previously released album which once found its way into our networks, this one sounds completely different. Although, it is difficult enough to say what exactly makes difference. Perhaps the farmers decided to slow down even more. Another possible reason is that ноун could discover a short space path to a black star. You’ll fall over into it while listening.

4. Jrpjej – Şefitse: Circassian Songs of XX Century (2023)

🇷🇺 Then, we are back to the Caucasus in order to turn over a couple more pages in the not-so-long-ago chronicle. Circassian songs of the last century absorbed the legacy of the preceding one. It became tragic and a turning point in the history of a number of peoples living in the Caucasus region. After another century, these melodies sound in a new way. However, the meaning of the lyrics and senses have been remaining the same. They do not lose their relevance today, when other wars are spreading throughout the lands.

5. Stone Rebel – Rebels (2023)

🇫🇷 In the instrumental universe of this mysterious author, the new constellations appear regularly. This one is shining bright and full of positive emotions. As you can guess, the album which received the project’s name is a special one. I think that’s true as I really enjoyed it. I should admit that the rest are no less and we leave you the possibility to uncover them all. Unfortunately, the artist is still available mostly exclusively at bandcamp.

6. Miscellen – Silver Tongued Psychodrome (2023)

🇺🇸 The June releases are starting with the work by this project from Washington, D.C. The weird and enigmatic story continues, obtaining noir and post-apocalyptic shades. It’s a dizzy state caused by the trip between the worlds. The nightmares are in the past, the future is no less foggy. These eight tracks are masterly arranged in order to speed up and slow down the movement through the parallel reality. My personal pick here is “Monkey Fist” which is full of psychedelic mirages.

7. Go Go Machine Orchestra, Minyen Hsieh – Symbol (2023)

🇹🇼 …And now we are instantly moving to Taiwan. There is a new thing from another project, no less mysterious than the previous one. Minyen Hsieh joined the team this time, bringing his unbridled saxophone in. It bursts into the air in a couple of compositions, augmenting the reality and seeming to change the color scheme. Listen to these unusual compositions in both versions and compare their spectra. For sure, you’ll feel both sides of the fragile and enigmatic symbol.

8. Al Wootton – We Have Come To Banish The Dark (2023)

🇬🇧 The selected electronics section is replenished with this nugget from the British Isles. On this record, the sound acquires richness and depth at the most unexpected moments. It seems that the music decides itself when to fold and when to expand and develop into something huge. Strangely enough, the fury is on a leash most of the time. During the record, the intelligence crumbles into sparks to dissolve in the noise of chaos.
