Under a New Moon. 5 Indie Pop Albums

The moon is crawling towards our cozy camp. Image by artgiagzhel

We find ourselves in between two worlds, old and new. Between past and future, our path continues under the rays of the moon. Let’s see who is singing for us on the way.

1. Mieke Miami โ€“ Montecarlo Magic (2021)

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Mieke Miami, a Berlin-based artist, invites us to plunge into a strange world, both black and white and colored. Here, modest vocal parts, soft beats and saxophone’s voice are carelessly sketched onto the canvas of electronic music. It’s exactly the case when elements of electronics, rock and pop penetrate each other, leaving no possibility to catch them individually. Instead, in a couple of compositions, we are offered to capture the moods and feelings from youth or even childhood. And why anyone should resist?

2. Stewart Allan โ€“ 9 Rooms (2021)

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Our goose is rushing us to New Zealand. Stuart Allan has been already waiting for us for a long while. He is ready to tell nine of his stories appearing from different parts of the world. The album is titled that way, hinting not necessarily at the premises, but rather at the possibilities and the space being left for them. Arly Lieberman, a guitarist, composer and producer, helped the author with the musical material. Each of the songs sounds in a special way, embraces and gifts a contemplative mood.

3. Katie Van Sleen โ€“ Things May Not Get Better (2023)

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ According to the author, this album was born in an attempt to find logic. She has been searhing for it given that there might be logic at all. The new world is changing faster than we are getting used to it. How to find hope in a hopeless state? How to rethink the past? How to dream about the future in other way, as the future which would definitely not be what it seemed? All these questions, many of which are destined to remain unanswered, are under the cover of Katy’s album.

4. Coda Chroma โ€“ Dreamself (2023)

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ The turn has come to Australia. In this episode, the continent is represented by Keith Lucas, also known as Coda Chroma. Hidden thoughts about life and obstacles on the way are scattered everywhere inside the compositions from this album. It is about all these states that are following the lyrical heroes. Here, the momentary meets the eternal. Once again, the acoustics are skillfully combined with the synthetic sound. Synthesizers do not contrast with the guitar or strings, either giving way to them, or entering into a dialogue.

5. Lady / Bird โ€“ Minden (2022)

๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡บ The last opus for today has flown to us from Budapest. This is a solo work as well. We are not sure if it comes from a girl or from a bird. Our goose did not have time to recognize while listening to it. By the middle of the album, he had lost himself dreaming about something sublime. Well, it means that the author succeeded in his idea. After all, a brief description says that it is a soundtrack for daydreaming and life loving. This is what we are going to practice while enjoying gentle compositions in Hungarian.
