Driss El Maloumi – Aswat (2023)

πŸ‡²πŸ‡¦ We have already met Driss El Maloumi on our way. Remember the 3MA project? You should re-listen to it anyway.

Now, back to the maestro’s solo album. By the way, he releases them infrequently. The previous one was published ten years ago. So each release is a special celebration of world music.

Being a master oud player, Driss builds his compositions around his instrument with its mesmerizing sound. Of course, the oud is not in splendid isolation, but surrounded by other traditional instruments, primarily percussion instruments (darbuka, tombak, daf, cajon and others). There is also a room for vocals performed by the author and his companions.

Listening to the album, we are going to set out on a journey through Africa, the Sinai and the Middle East, return to the Mediterranean Sea and repeat this circle. This magnificent music seems to move in a spiral, introducing us to ancient treasures in a modern appearance.
