Four Picks: 4 Energy Boosts

As always, in the 4Picks episodes, the albums do not fit in any pattern. They are all different. Nevertheless, each of these four has its own positive boost. Just unveil yours one.

1. Anat Cohen โ€“ Quartetinho (2022)

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท The first number in this episode is the album by Anat Cohen, New York based originally Israeli jazz clarinetist. Her “Quartetinho” is equipped by Vitor Gonรงalves from Rio de Janeiro (keyboards), Tal Masjach (guitar, bass) and drummer and percussionist James Shipp. The roll call of the vibraphone and the piano sounds especially nice, when the clarinet enters suddenly and leads each voice to enhanced reality.

2. Refree โ€“ El Espacio Entre (2023)

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Raul Fernandez Miro is better known as Refree. He publishes the music of his own nor that often, devoting more time to producing and collaborating. Here is Raul’s second opus. Be it strings or keys, electronics or effects, everything comes to life in Raul’s hands and freezes when time puts everything in its place. Noises, creaks and whispers from the underside of the sound intervene in the musical narrative, and the picture changes. The instrumental compositions on the disc are saturated with ambient elements, improvisations and various whims of the author.

3. Dirty Shades โ€“ Lift Off (Live Session EP) (2022)

๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท The French band will cheer you up with a short live recording made last spring. Several peppy compositions with catchy melodies and goosebumps hidden in them, activated with the help of pedals. Pleasant alternative rock on the topic of the day.

4. Cairo Jag โ€“ New Winds (2022)

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ And, as if in contrast, the autumn EP from Indianapolis. You’ll want to fly up higher on these waves and hang somewhere in an airless space. It is filled with multiple reflections, inviting to get lost in the labyrinth carefully prepared by this mighty trio. Have a nice trip!
