Throughout Post-rock. E04. Flickering

In its fourth incarnation, post-rock takes softly pulsating and impulsive forms. Technically, this can be achieved in different ways, be it guitar effects like delay pedals, an emphasis on synths, or even the inclusion of strings or brass instruments. Here is our shimmering five.

1. Endless Dive – A Brief History of a Kind Human (2022)

🇧🇪 Our episode opens with a band from Belgium. The latest album to date is telling us a brief summary of the mankind’s history. However, it’s not about such topics as crimes and destruction, but it focuses on the good things. This is the name given to the title track and the whole album. Kindness and upbeat atmosphere spread throughout its entire space of the record, staying with a listener until the very last seconds.

2. Follow – Old Haunts (2023)

🇦🇺 As it often happens with us in the Selected Goosebumps blog, we fly straight to the opposite part of the planet. Now we arrive at the Tasmanian main city, Hobart. It’s a home place for this wonderful, but not that well-known band. These lads should receive way more attention as they delight with a gorgeous flickering sound. It connects the hearts and fills them with the vibrations of proper amplitude and frequency.

3. Wohl – Undistorted (Live at Rec4) (2023)

🇲🇽 Once again we spin the globe. This time we find ourselves somewhere in the middle of hot Guadalajara, Mexico. We are guests at a nice live performance. The corresponding EP warms the soul with its lightweight sound. To tell the truth, the band’s earlier recordings are just as cosmic. Enjoy either version, with or without distortion, just as you wish. We prefer to listen to both of them as it is double pleasure.

4. Aurora Falls – Artificial Empathy (2023)

🇵🇱 The Polish scene is represented in our episode by this young quartet. Over the course of a couple of years, they have developed and packed their musical ideas into a full-fledged debut album. This work has the guts to take place pretty close to the luminaries of the genre. I admit it is not a genre indeed, it’s rather an experimental stream capable to capture all your attention and feeling of the moment. That’s what the post-rock is really specialized in.

5. The Bronzed Chorus – Aki (2023)

🇺🇸 Let’s wrap up with the record by these Americans. The duo originating from Greensboro, North Carolina, tells us that they have been “writing complicated music since 2006”. The latest to date album is deeply saturated with electronics. It sounds as if it was recorded by rather a full range band. Nevertheless, the two hearts are enough to make this music flicker brightly. That’s what we are experiencing while listening to this music.
