Glass Beams – Mahal (2024)

🇦🇺 Today our musical goose has chosen a mirage album for you. This is a hoax, fleeting and elusive.

As you turn on this record, you will find yourself in a ghostly world made of reflections. Some of the images seem to fly from Asia Minor. Others are from mysterious India. (They write that the band’s front man is of Indian origin). Trends from Western psychedelia of the 20th century will not past your ears. Finally, it’s worth noting that the trio are actually from Melbourne. Thus you will be completely immersed in the warmth of the southern waves as well.

The Glass Beams band intentionally leaves nothing clear and defined. They wear masks, vintage and unique at the same time. Apparently, this is a hint that there is no need to look at faces and personalities when the music born of inspiration is primary. Their lyrics contain only exclamations. In their music, there is simplicity and no horizons while the first track is ironically called “Horizon”. Once you reach this horizon for a moment, it will be replaced by the next song, and just then you will find out that this wonderful EP has completely melted into thin air. Unbeknownst to yourself, go beyond the horizon. That is, press back the first track.
