🇨🇳 🇹🇳 🇸🇾 🇹🇯 🇺🇿 Today we are listening to an album that might appear in one of our Continents series (check the #Continents section). However, it rightfully deserves a special review.
This ensemble unites the voices from distant but pretty linked areas of the globe. The ensemble comprises of Wu Man (Chinese pipa), Feras Charestan from Syria (kanun), Jasser Haj Youssef from Tunisia (violin and viola d’amore), Syrian saxophonist Basel Rajoub (in addition to saxophone, he plays tárogató, and duclar), Sirojiddin Juraev (Tajik dutar and tanbur) and Abbos Kosimov from Uzbekistan (percussion).
As you might have guessed, the band’s music echoes the traditions of the Mediterranean, the Middle East and South Asia. We will hear the whole continent in different intonations, forming a unique story.
The record was named after the New Year holiday, which dates back to Zoroastrian traditions and is celebrated to this day across a vast territory from Western Asia to the regions of China. The album itself is a real holiday for connoisseurs of good instrumental music, filled with the sensual and eternal matter.
