The Alpacas Collective, our today’s guest, is an ensemble hailing from the city of Leuven, Belgium.
🇧🇪 This project consists of more than a dozen of members. Being European, most of them willingly involve non-European matter in their compositions.
After all, musicians easily juggle different approaches to performing music. They actively involve the inventions of so many different cultures. On one album we will find something Creole, Griot, influnces from Hindustani and New Orleans jazz, as well as dub, afrobeat and other inventions of the past and recent times.
While you are listening to this extravagant music, just before you get used to the sound, something unexpected arrives. It beings the new wave and seems unrelated to the theme that you just heard. The brass section bursts into the air after the party of Western electric organ or synthesizer and they are then replaced by sitar or African ngoni.
