π±π§ Today we are getting acquainted with the work of Youmna Saba, a Lebanese artist, researcher of music, spoken and visual art.
Youmna is focused on learning and telling stories about how sounds interact with images and sensations. She kindly shares her discoveries with the audience, actively performing and recording both her solo material and joint works.
She has been collaborating with artists from the UK, Korea, Spain and other parts of the world. Yumna’s main interest is the music of Mashreq, the Eastern domain of the Arab world. Obviously, Arabic music could not help but interact with traditions of other origins, including the Middle East, India and other civilizations. It is this aspect of evolution, traced in music and poetry, that Yumna embodies in her solo project.
Her third album, released in the fall, consists of five consecutive acts. We can trace the interpenetration of four elements: lyrics, vocals, the magical instrument of oud, and electronics. Yumna’s composition sounds intriguing and mystical. Transport yourself to Beirut and continue your journey to the East, taking as accompaniment this album, whose title translates as “veil”. Lift it and a mysterious perspective will open up to you.
