MazzBoxx [Jerzy Mazzoll x Igor Boxx] – MazzBoxx (2021)

🇵🇱 This album is picked from the back shelf marked by imaginery sticker with the “Listen urgently!” line.

The duet of two sound masters from Poland turned out great. Jerzy Mazzoll wrote and performed compositions open to everything new. Igor Pudło, also known as Boxx, saturated the sound with programming and arrangements and gave the proceedings some kind of cosmic quality.

A hefty arsenal of instruments is involved into this recording. The narrative is based on wind parts: Jerzy plays bass clarinet, metal clarinet and tarogato on this album. Hand in hand with the clarinet comes a tasty beat, periodically joined by keyboards.

The most memorable track for me was “The Habit of Singing to Oneself”: literally everything about it is wonderful. And in general, the record is full of diverse ideas, wandering from dark jazz prostration to rhythmic experimentalism and looking into adjacent and distant areas.
