Welcome to the second part of our post-metal vernissage. Six bands, six outstanding releases, six trips to the domains of dark mighty sound.
1. Brusque – Boîte Noire (2022)

🇫🇷 Let’s start with the mild vocals of “Most Don’t Break Free” by French act Brusque. Yes, you can’t be wrong if you feel something coming after. It’s concentrated vigor ready to reign. Notice that it is a duo. Jefferson Grégoire played guitars and bass and sang, and Clément Duboscq was on drums. Some doom, noise and post-hardcore added in proper portions. A couple of guests participated in several tracks, making the album even more shining. Shining in the dark part oа the specter, of course.

2. Tars – I Was Haunted by the Idea That I Remembered Her Wrong (2022)

🇧🇪 Tars is the one-man band managed by Damien Polfliet from Belgium. His latest full length sounds nickel. Precise emphases are attracting the listener’s attention on the whole distance. The album turns to come to us mature, elaborated and stylish. The ideas are easily discerned, while all the parties are perfectly matched. Not to mention that all the stuff was recorded, mixed and mastered by its own author. Surprisingly enough, I was sure that Tars should be a complete band, not a DIY project done by a sole person.

3. LLNN – Unmaker (2021)

🇩🇰 Time to arrive at Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Here we are going to be smashed by this epic release. Although “Unmaker” appeared a couple of years ago, it surely should present in our annals. The retinue of goosebumps shows up just in the first track from the album. It keeps marching until the very end, and this march is astonishing. Take care of your earbuds, as these lads give them such a hard time. Cold, cosmic, huge, with tons of star dust blowing out on the way.

4. Apollogaze – Ocea (2022)

🇷🇺 Now, let’s switch to another domain of post-metal. Apollogaze is a young trio from Saratov, Russia, serving a blend of heavy post-rock with intelligent post-metal. A kind of stuff that we in the Selected Goosebumps love. Emphatic, emotional but rather discreet. Like a never sleeping volcano. It may seem calm and frozen, but let it some time. The wave is coming and you cannot resist. The guys prepared a bunch of special riffs for you to fall in love.

5. Sugar Horse – The Live Long After (2021)

🇬🇧 The British band Sugar Horse got into our episode for a reason. Their 2021’s work deserves a meticulous listen. The wrecks of noise rock, shoegaze, doom and other inventions are everywhere, but it still can be considered a variety of good post-metal. For those of you who appreciate these experiments, the band has the album with the similar title, but recorded LIVE. Jut search for the capital letters, dudes. And… enjoy!

6. Heiress – Distant Fires (2021)

🇺🇸 This solid opus by heiress from Seattle, Washington closes our today’s episode. This stuff is sludgy, with downtempo hardcore flavor. Mighty vocals and tremendous energetic riffs will make your skin palpitating. Slowed enough to freeze your blood and brake this iced stuff apart. Feel yourself the quiet tension! However, it is not that quiet, I should say. The sound on the album is pretty loud, voluminous and powerful. These guys do not stint on slaps intended for your ears.
