Cries for Colour – Yellow Sands; Or Eight Tales of Pixie Mischief (2024)

Today we are getting acquainted with Canadian musician and producer Quinn Downton and his project Cries for Colour.

🇨🇦 Quinn worked especially hard on his album and it was finally released after three years of preparation. Literally everything is verified here. Each of the compositions follows the story which develops according to internal laws. The themes are connected to each other by invisible threads of narrative.

Each involved instrument takes its place and we are going to encounter a whole scattering of voices. Among them, you will hear a fretless bass, guimbri, phonofiddle, electrophone and even simsimiyya. Sometimes, when the sounds calm down a little, you already begin to expect something new. Well, the expectations are not in vain.

The majestic Daisy performs the main vocal parts on the album. Her voice may remind some of you of Madonna, or Bjork, or the Lady from the Radiator. However, as for the associations, everyone will have their own.

The main thing is that Quinn’s music is beautiful and multifaceted. It’s definitely enough for more than one evening. At least personally, I clearly had more impressions, and various ones, after the second or third listening.
