Four Picks. 4 Impulsive Things

Today we are diving in the domain of jazz-inspired experiments. Each one is melting our attitude and makes us fall in love in such ultimate music.

1. Sunbörn – Sunbörn (2023)

🇩🇰 Let’s start with the revival. The Danish sextet, formerly known as KutiMangoes, decided to take on a new name. This worked out well for them indeed. The concept of both the album and the project itself is pretty simple and universal. We are all under the same sun and the force that unites us can surely be greater than any centrifugal forces.

2. Black Wojtyla – 3Much (2023)

🇮🇹 This trio from Milan prefers a direct way to the listeners. Trumpet, bass and drums are enough to explode. Their tempo is pretty contagious, with the trumpet parties on the brink of assertiveness and thick bass making a good match. The drummer wraps up the sound and makes it sticky.

3. Shake Stew – Lila (2023)

🇦🇹 This album from the Austrian team is a triumph of contrasts. The delicious rhythm is skillfully combined with touched feelings which hide somewhere under the severity and brevity. Guembri, flute or kalimba appear when you don’t expect it. This collaboration sounds modern and charming.

4. Siema Ziemia – Second (2023)

🇵🇱 Let’s end the episode in Poznan, where this local quartet cleverly combines electronic music with near-jazz experiments. Here the saxophone insinuatingly tells about something subtle. However, as soon as the story has barely developed, the timid notes are replaced by a sonic comet. The same same saxophone immediately saddles up and rushes through the star dust.
