It’s often the case when experimental music inherits from both guitar rock and synth-driven electronics. Today we pick four distinct works that follow this setting in their own ways.
1. Rwyr – Distance (2021)

🇮🇪 Let’s start our electric adventure from Ireland, the birthplace of this experimental project. The album cover matches exactly what is prepared for us. Listening to the record is like preparing and finally jumping off a cliff into a friendly sea. It’s full of waves of admiration and pleasant vibrations. For the most part, the compositions on the album are spacious and calm like the sea. Then, over time, the energy builds up to spill out into a small storm and carry you out into the open ocean!

2. Six Days of Calm – My Little, Safe Place (2023)

🇩🇪 The team from Würzburg, Germany takes up the baton. By pure coincidence, the first track has the same name as the previous album that we have just listened to. Nevertheless, this distance is different. It consists of a continuous chain of small steps. Gradually, the cinematic narrative is crystallizing to captivate you. The chime of individual notes merges with the string parts and dissipate beyond the foggy horizon. You’ll spend some time in this sensuous world before it fades away and lets another opus to arrive.

3. Thought Bubble – Around (2023)

🇬🇧 Well, this is completely different music. It seems there is a lot of things mixed and wrapped. The pulsating rhythm unites with a reflection of krautrock. The tenacious base mimics a soundtrack for some ancient computer game. Then, come the snatches of voices appearing out of nowhere right in the middle of the compositions. Moreover, the looped patterns are trying to get into the techno labyrinth. In conclusion, this cover in psychedelic colors is leading the eye to the very center and the music follows this trick.

4. Vasudeva – Generator (2020)

🇺🇸 On the trio’s latest album to date, all tracks were created by the generator. Its components are the following: the creative experience of good old friends, imagination and an optimistic view of the future. The synthetics here are soft and unobtrusive, as the synthesizer parts unite with the rhythm of the drum machines without overshadowing the guitars. They, in turn, add some maths and a kind of carefree romance as well. One should admit this is true to all previous albums of the band.

5. Miaou – The Only Way To Find You (2023)

🇯🇵 We end our episode on a light note. The Japanese band with a gentle name skillfully navigates the underbelly of genres, saturating their post-rock with the sound of synthesizers and vibraphone. Inside the compositions you will encounter a sort of pop music environment being turned inside out. It may seem that in some places the rhythm is simplified to the minimum. But then the melody develops and more complex patterns appear. Everything is fresh, pleasant and refreshing.
