What is common to today’s four albums is the strings’ vibration. It evokes a response somewhere inside. Let’s walk along and catch the resonance, each time new and different from the previous ones.
1. Andrew Bird – Outside Problems (2023)
🇺🇸 This gentle and touching album begins our series. According to the author’s idea, it had to be recorded in the fresh air (hence “Outside”). We should mention that the first part of the duology, released a year earlier, was called “Inside Problems”. However, the idea was interrupted by a guy with a wood chipper, who could have ruined everything. Apparently, the second component, “Problems”, was destined to remain. However, Andrew did not give up. He dug into his record storage and selected previous live recordings. Sometimes he didn’t even have to get up from the couch. Most of what you hear was born on that couch, when the author simply pulled out what was necessary from his guitar.

2. Perolas – Live From Echidna Studio (2023)
🇦🇺 The highlight of this Australian band, of course, is the gorgeous classical harp. The enchanting vibrations of its strings fit perfectly into the jazz formations of the quartet and give them an unearthly sound. In addition, the harpist Liana Perillo delights the audience with her ethereal voice. The guitarist also plays synthesizer and trumpet. This is why the sound of this band is so bright and unconventional.

🇰🇷 🇺🇸 Here is the debut album by Korean composer and violinist Katherine Kyu Hyeon Lim, who lives in New York. It collected ideas has been appearing during her long creative path. Surely you will hear something Eastern, transmitting by violin parts. The other voices are following them, reflecting the European and American experience. author. Trombone and saxophone are competing in expressiveness, both obeying mathematical calculations and indulging in free improvisation. There is still room for “special effects” to complement the embodiment of fantasy.

4. Manchester Collective – Neon (2023)
🇬🇧 Our walk along the strings is completed by this work by an ensemble with a loud name. However, the music that they perform is not always loud. They are rather looking for contrasts between muted tones and bright ones, between the ticking of a clock and the polygonal voice, between leisurely contemplation and rapid movement into the future. In this fast moments, they are simply tearing the veils from frozen classical forms. Find all this is in the album called “Neon”.
