We are launching our series dealing with variations of post-rock. Even nowadays one still might argue that post-rock does not exist. However, we know that not only it evolves in multiple directions, but is also may heal the listeners’ souls. The first episode is all about such dimension of post-rock, soothing one.
1. Aaronson โ The Great Swells That Carry Us Will Pull Us Under (2023)

๐ฌ๐ง Our first piece is distinguished by soft lines and mild transitions. On the other hand, here you are going to find a range of characteristic post-rock properties which we will reveal in future episodes. I’m talking about such things as depth, power and… well, let’s avoid spoiling the details right away! This album with a long title is possibly a kind of “universal” post-rock stuff. Its major components are the sun rays, the endless sky, and ever-moving water. Here, even the shipwreck appeared rather in a contemplative and peaceful light but not as a destructive event.

2. Floating In Space โ Liftoff (2022)

๐ช๐ธ Let’s move straight to sunny Spain. There we are going to listen to the latest album by this wonderful project. It was published on Deep Elm Records as well as previous acts. “Liftoff” continues the previously outlined trajectory. It turns out to be a truly mature, harmonious, cosmic album. We will go into low-Earth orbit for a pleasant time traveling. Clouds will silently float past, and receding plains with river valleys scattered between them will unfold beneath us. Have a nice liftoff, trip and landing in a while.

3. Wang Wen โ Painful Clown & Ninja Tiger (2022)

๐จ๐ณ And now we find ourselves in northeast China? namely in the city of Dalian. The local vibrant band offers us a soulful concert. We will experience the effects of the elements that come to cities and leave them afterwards, returning to the wild. The ninja tiger will accompany us as a guide. Don’t forget, it is capable of reaching the Sun in one jump! Speaking about the groupโs music, I should admit that it is unusual in all senses, as it has always been. It is bright and inventive. In a word, it occurs to be striped like a wild cat.

4. Omar Raafat โ The Traveler (2022)

๐จ๐ฆ ๐ช๐ฌ That’s an imaginary soundtrack straight from the Pacific coast of Canada. It fits rather not a movie, but a journey through life. Here are the strings, electronics and even handpan, which are equally good for this purpose. Some will not hear any post-rock in this music, while others will pay attention to the neoclassical nature of the sound. Let’s say, the record demonstrates the origins from which sensual experimental music can emerge and develop. This is the source of subtle feelings and intimate experience that we value the most.

5. Isolation Drills โ Year One (2023)

๐บ๐ธ The duo from Indianapolis successfully combines the incongruous. Slow waves of melancholy are thus joined by zealous amplified parts and echoes of heavy guitar music, drone and everything that comes after that. At the same time, their work also has a calming effect. As a response to the pandemic, the melancholy of isolation and the protracted wait for something unknown, the project offers four kaleidoscopic compositions. There everyone will find something for themselves, being stuck in their own isolation.
